Clergy Retreats  2010

 January 25 -29, 2010 - Fr. Michael Martin, C.S.P.

At 6'9" I am the "Tallest Paulist".  Half of my career was spent in campus ministry (West Virginia Mountaineers, Colorado Buffaloes and Minnesota Gophers).  I was pastor of St. Nicholas Church in North Pole Alaska (!!!) for 8 winters (I volunteered, I wasn't banished).  I also helped train parishes, priests and dioceses in "The New Evangelization" while Pope John Paul II reigned.  I have worked with Marriage Encounter, Engaged Encounter, Cursillo, Beginning Experience (for divorced Catholics), Retrouvaille (for troubled marriages), and Landings (for returning Catholics).

But the reason you will appreciate this retreat is that, after 32 years of priesthood, I'm still enthusiastic and grateful in my vocation, and looking forward to being with you.  I've recently relocated to Vero Beach and plan to be here a while.

This retreat will be based on a recent Paulist Press book, Seven Secular Challenges Facing 21st Century Catholics by Val Peter.  He has spent decades as Director of Boys Town and as a seminary professor.  The text can hopefully stimulate conversation regarding the role of the pastor, present and future.  The importance of being that man of faith rooted in both Jesus Christ and our present day will resonate with many of us.  Reading the text is not a prerequisite, or even necessary.

February 22-26, 2010 - Archbishop Edwin Frederick O’Brien

Archbishop O'Brien's theme for this very special clergy retreat is: "SEEKING THE FACE OF GOD:  OUR MONOMANIACALLY CONSUMING VOCATION"

Motto:  Pastores Dabo Vobis  "I will give you shepherds" -Jeremiah 3:15

Archbishop O'Brien's background and bio, too lengthy to include here, is in a separate document located here.

Apr 26-30, 2010 - Fr. Mario Gallipoli, C.P.

Please Note this retreat was cancelled

Father Mario's Retreat Theme is "The Joy of Priesthood".  Celebrating the Year of the Priest with St. John Vianney

Fr. Mario Gallipoli, C.P., was born October 9, 1932 in Astoria, Long Island, New York. He was educated in New York Parochial Schools and entered the Passionist Community in 1951. He was ordained by Bishop Cuthbert O'Gara, C.P. in 1961. Since his ordination to the Priesthood, Fr. Mario has served in various priestly ministries- as a Latin teacher and Spiritual Director in the Passionist Minor Seminary in Dunkirk, New York; also as a Parish Assistant, in Dunkirk. His work has mostly been in the preaching ministry- fourteen years on the teams of various Passionist Retreat Houses.

In 1971 Fr. Mario received a Masters Degree in Guidance and Counseling from Boston College. For the past twenty-five years, he has been assigned to the Preaching Band of the Province of St. Paul of the Cross, traveling along the East Coast of the United States and working out of Immaculate Conception Monastery in Jamaica, New York. Fr. Mario has been preaching Parish Missions and Renewals and Retreats at various Convents and Retreat Houses, and also Novenas and other Spiritual Exercises.
