A SACRAMENT MOST HOLY

 Marriages flourish because of the efforts by each spouse.  More and more, retreatants who come to our regular weekend retreats, are taking time with their spouses to reflect and nurture the spiritual life of their commitment by participating in a married couples retreat.

We yearn to see God in our lives –  to know what is needed and expected of us.  We want to know:  Are we forgiven?  Does God really love us?  What does God want us to do?  These are not only personal questions but questions for married couples as well.

"Love Casts Out Fear" is our theme for the Married Couples Retreats

    Of the three theological virtues – Faith, Hope and Love – St Paul writes:  “The greatest of these is love.” (1 Corinthians 13:13)  References to love, both divine and human, are generously found throughout scripture.

    In the first letter of John there is the beautiful reflection about God’s love and where the words for this season’s theme are found:  Love casts out Fear. (1 John 4:18)

    Divine Love does cast out the fears and anxieties of our lives.  God makes every effort to let us know we are not alone.  We also need the grace to trust, to have faith and to hope.

    Ours is a fragile world.  Our lives are finite.  We are realizing that what we humans are able to construct may not be really life giving and sustaining.  The world does not provide what is essential to our lives – God does.  The world will not allay our fears.  That is God’s work.  And God’s work is Love.

    Give yourself the gift of a retreat, invite a family member, ask a friend.  This is the moment – the opportunity – to be renewed – to come and rest in God’s Love.  This is the time to deepen your faith, so that your faith is strengthened for the journey.

    Besides the presentations by the Center’s team, a witness couple will tell their marriage story.  Additionally there will be time for reflection, celebrations of prayer and Mass, delicious meals, ‘date night’ with a movie & discussion and, most importantly, the shared spiritual experience to nurture your life as a couple.

The retreats begin on Friday evening with a pick-up supper between 6pm and 7:30pm and end on Sunday following 11:00am Mass.

The Fall Married Couples Retreat will be the weekend of November 5-7, 2010.  The Spring weekend will be May 13-15, 2011.

This retreat is presented by the Retreat Team of Our Lady of Florida in collaboration with the laity.  The suggested offering is $370.00 per couple.
