For Immediate Release Baker Liturgical Art, LLC has successfully completed the installation of the new base, cross and corpus at the entrance of Our Lady of Florida Spiritual Center, on US Highway 1, in North Palm Beach. This addition was made possible though a donation and as a memorial for Charles and Anna Fischer and Family. Rev. Paul Wierichs, C.P., Director of Our Lady of Florida commissioned Baker Liturgical Art and designer Angelo Gherardi in Italy to design, fabricate and install this magnificent artwork at the Center. The centerpiece of the crucifix is the 9 foot, nearly 2,000 pound white Carrara marble corpus, hand carved in Italy over the course of eight months. The corpus has been mounted to a specially engineered 22 foot steel cross. The cross is supported by a base of black African granite, imported from Italy, featuring the Passionist’s symbol in marble mosaic and the words “We Preach Christ Crucified” cut into the granite and gold leafed. The original Tryptych Crucifix that stood in the location was destroyed in the hurricanes of 2004. Our Lady of Florida and the Passionists of the Eastern Province of St. Paul of the Cross have served this community since 1962 as a spiritual oasis utilizing themed retreats and other events, conferences and seminars, to help individuals grow in their faith lives. Project manager P. J. Delahunty and Phil Johnson, of Baker Liturgical Art, have been overseeing cross construction and installation. Baker Liturgical Art, LLC, specializes in ecclesiastical art as well as the renovation and restoration of churches. In 2006, Baker completed the restoration of the Cathedral of St. Ignatius Loyola in Palm Beach Gardens for Bishop Gerald Barbarito. No photograph can do justice to our new Crucifix. The artwork, majesty, Passion and incredible detail must be seen in person. We are in the planning stages of a formal dedication ceremony with Bishop Barbarito. Please pray for us.
