✠ EASTER SUNDAY OF THE RESURRECTION OF THE LORD
Is Jesus “wanted” dead or alive?
This is where the rubber hits the road for most people who respect Catholicism although not being Catholic themselves. Almost all agree that Jesus was a great man but we believe Jesus is a great man and a great God because He has risen. The conversations always swing back around full circle with three key questions: “Do you believe that Jesus was in fact the Son of God?”, “Do you believe in the real presence of Jesus in the Eucharist?”, and “Do you believe that Jesus rose from the dead?”
Catholics believe that Jesus Christ is very much alive and that He can be seen in several ways. This requires of course that we have faith and believe the testimony of eye witnesses as being true. Saint Peter illustrates this point really well in the Acts of the Apostles: “This man God raised on the third day and granted that he be visible, not to all the people, but to us, the witnesses chosen by God in advance, who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead.” Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life.
We know this because Jesus told us so. (Jn 14:6) He also told His disciples exactly what was going to happen beforehand. They didn’t see or understand until after Jesus rose from the dead. In the same way we are called to “think of what is above, not of what is on earth.”
On this day of days we offer a joyful sacrifice of praise to the Father who raised his Son from the dead. Let us be intent upon the life Christ offers us, Christ our Passover who has been sacrificed.
