Who’s strength do we trust in when we feel attacked?
We can relate with the lament of Jeremiah as we are often attacked for trying to do what we are called to do. Doing the right thing can often make us feel very alone. The beauty is in how Jeremiah recovers when he is denounced by his community. His relationship with The Lord is solidified rather than weakened for God has “entrusted” his cause.
Jesus is united with Jeremiah in that, He to is being denounced for speaking TRUTH. He gives the most perfect response which are words we should absolutely do our best to live: “even if you do not believe me, believe the works.” The Gospels are living words that come to life in our acts of love in the community.
Denounced for blasphemy, for making himself God’s equal, Jesus knows he can trust in God, his strength.
